A SURVEY OF NUTRITION OF FEMALE WORKERS AT KURO FACTORY DISTRICT IN SEOUL

Abstract
This survey was conducted to investigate the dietary and nutritional status of the female workers from May 20 to June 9, 1982, at the Kuro factory district in Seoul, in an attempt to obtain baseline data which will be needed to provide the better dietary management¢¥, _
The results are summarized as follows:
This study covered a total of 150 female workers from 16 to 25-year old. The mean hemoglobin concentration was 13.0mg/100ml; 19.3%¢¥ of the subjects were in the deficient group as indicated by WHO. The mean hematocrit value was 40% and 17. 1% of the subject were categorized as low group, 1.5% were in the deficient group, and 81. 4% were at an acceptable level as indicated by O¢¥neal et al. The mean daily energy intake of the subjects met 70.2% of the recommended allowance; carbohydrate provided 79.5%, protein provided 1i¡Æ; %, and fat provided 9.5% of the total energy intake. The mean protein intake was 57.5¡Æ0 -of the recommended allowance; those proteins were mainly derived from vegetable sources. The subjects ingested less than one half of the recommended allowances for iron, calcium, -vitamin A, and riboflavin. The mean intake of thiamin and niacin was 70.7%, 86¢¥.6Oo of the recommended allowance respectively, in contrast the mean vitamin C inatke level was acceptable. The mean meal balance was scored 93, based on a maxium of 200 points, the mean food diversity score was 13.6, based on a maximum of 30 points.
